16 June was the day of Wagashi (\u548c\u83d3\u5b50\u306e\u65e5).\u00a0 It was a day that the Japanese Emperor Ninmyo offered 16 kinds of sweets and mochi to the God and prayed for health and prosperity. Since then, the custom of wagashi Japanese sweets became popular among Japanese people during different eras such as the Edo era. People believed that if they bought 16 kinds of wagashi sweets, they would have good luck. It became a tradition in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 30th June, it is the day of summer purification rites (\u590f\u8d8a\u306e\u7953 Natsukoshi Harae) which is an event to clean up the injuries accumulated in half a year. During this day, you will find the cogon grass ring (\u8305\u306e\u8f2a Chinowa) in the shrine. People will pass through the cogon grass ring to\u00a0 cleanse the injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wagashi is a traditional Japanese sweet that you can feel the seasonal change in a year. You can find different representative wagashi of each month. On the day of Natsukoshi Harae, it is customary to eat Japanese wagashi sweets called Minazuki (\u6c34\u7121\u6708 – Minazuki was the ancient name of June in Japanese lunar calendar) to pray for peace and good luck in the second half of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
