Today is Jinjitsu (\u4eba\u65e5\u306e\u7bc0\u53e5), one of the 5 Seasonal Festivals that mark changes in the seasons. It is also known as \u201cNanakusa no sekku (\u4e03\u8349\u306e\u7bc0\u53e5) which is from the custom of eating seven-herb rice porridge (\u4e03\u8349\u7ca5) to ensure good health for the coming year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nanakusa gayu <\/strong>is a Japanese rice porridge recipe that is traditionally eaten on 7th January. It is made with a variety of young Japanese spring herbs as a cleansing meal that helps recover the stomach condition from overeating during Christmas, Year-End and New Year also. In the previous post, we have introduced the Japanese soup made with miso called Ozoni which is a traditional soup in Japanese New Year. Besides having a seven-herb rice porridge today, we can also have some simple warm soup to let our stomach relax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a traditional Japanese soup that is usually served in Japanese restaurants. It is a basic clear soup with simple seasoning that is based on Dashi and Soy Sauce.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We use Dashi, broth from the combination of dried Kombu kelp, dried Bonito, dried Shiitake Mushroom, Gyokuro and Hojicha. Using dashi that includes various ingredients will make a more rich flavor. Sumashi soup is very simple and you can enjoy it by changing different ingredients in the soup to go well with other dishes.\u00a0 This time, we used Tofu, Broccoli and Japanese fish cake. Just need to prepare a few seasonings and you can simply make this Japanese soup at home!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
